Hello,

Just getting into astronomy and got an astromaster 130eq this past father's day. So far I've been looking at saturn & the moon. Last month I was able to get some good views of jupiter and it's moons. I ended up building a DOB mount for it and it's been really stable and much easier to move in & out of the house since.

I'm trying to find a good place without a lot of light polution since the area I'm in is close to a larger city. I've been looking around for some astronomy groups in my area. I'm excited about getting the chance to explore much more out there when I don't have to contend with light polution.

I'm definitely looking forward to learning much more about astronomy here.

Hello and a warm welcome to the SGL. Lots of information here and very knowledgable people who will be happy to help with any questions you may have. It is a very good idea to join a local club and meet with fellow stargazers.

  • 1 month later...

Cloudy skies for a while, i think like 2 weeks, missed the eclipse.  Ofcourse, to lift my spirits I went shopping...

After viewing through someone else's 2" eyepiece, I decided to make the upgrade myself.  I have added to my collection a  2" diagonal Highpoint 99% dielectric mirror, Russell Optics 2" 42mm RKE, and Orion Megaview 2" 28mm, along with Orions Ultrablock filter.  I can't wait to try these guys out!

Not premium eyepieces, but for my f/10 SCT i think they will perform well. It's a shame I couldn't try them out.  Thanks for the wealth of info on here for helping me with my purchase decisions. Clears skies predicted on Monday night!  LOL
