A bit old Thor's helmet

Hi There,

I didn't posted for a while here so here you have one of my targets I had early this year - is about the famous Thor's Helmet - NGC2359.

This target is tricky for me because is a bit low and my observatory roof is sliding to the south-west. Because of this, I have limited exposure time to do the acquisitions for this.

But somehow, I succseded to do the job and this is the result of 4x1200 sec in Ha and 3x1200 sec in OIII, from 13 and 18-th of February 2015.

My usual set-up - MN190 / EQ6 / Atik314L+ mono / TS-oag / QHY5Lii, everything in my observatory.

The processing workflow was the following:

PIXINSIGHT

- STF

- Star alignment with Ha as a reference

- Pixelmath with the formula: R=Ha, G=40%Ha+60%OIII, B=OIII

- Dinamic crop

- Split RGB for

- linear fit with reference on R applied than to G and B

- DBE

- Backgroun neutralization

- Color calibration

- Histogram transformation

- HDR multiscale

- ACDNR

- Histogram calibration one more time

The result was introduced in StarTools an than I did:

- Sharpening

- Flux

- Magic

Than I went to Photoshop for

- curves (just a bit)

- save as 8 bit jpeg

Hi Jim.

That's a cracking image,of I suspect a difficult target.As you say a bit low down.

My own observation seems to be a little too soft, maybe a bit of sharpening would enhance even more.(My opinion only).

Very nice though.

Mick.

Thank you, folks! Unfortunatelly I do not have as much time as I need to make better and longer acquisitions and image processing. But I try to do my best...
