Aptina MT9M034 sensor/pixel size

I was comparing the sensors of my cameras and I am a bit confused about the spec sheet of the MT9M034 (used in the QHY5L-II mono, ASI 120mm etc). Specifically it lists :

Optical Format: 1/3-inch

Active Array: 1280(H) x 960(V)

Imaging Area: 3.54mm(H) x 2.69mm(V)

Pixel Size: 3.75μm x 3.75μm

However, doing 1280 x 3.54μm we get a width of 4.53mm. Which would actually seems closer to the width of other 1/3" sensors, 3.54mm is much smaller.

Am I missing something? This is a mono sensor, no RGB etc to confuse things...

Easiest thing I think is to download the data sheet: https://www.aptina.com/products/image_sensors/mt9m034/

What you have I guess is the product flyer.

Look at page 10.

A, yes, thank you. The product flyer data has been copied by everybody, so it was the only value I could find. So it is 4.86x3.66mm including the non-active pixels.

The flyer will be copied as it is nice and small, handing over a 55 page document is not much use.

However the data sheet shows the actual arrangement, at least it was shown and they did it nice and easy to understand - they used a picture.   .

I would have thought that the picture showing the imaging and non-imaging bits would have been useful in the flyer however.

The non-active bits will be used to shift the pixel "data" into to then read them - they have to get the information out somehow.
