M16. My narrowband anniversary Eagle.

It is pretty much one year since I bought my imaging kit, and I wanted to go for an iconic target to see how far I have come and to mark the anniversary. As with all good challenges, I had lots of issues with this, but it's all a good learning and humbling experience, and thanks again for all the technical and moral support from this forum :)

M16, the Eagle Nebula in Ha, Oiii, Sii using the HST palette. RGB stars, but not in the nebula itself, as try as I might, I couldn't get them into the image without rings and artefacts, so they stay the distinctive NB mauve!

Skywatcher ED80, Atik 414ex, HEQ5

Ha : 18 x 20mins, Sii: 7 x 20mins, Oiii: 12 x 20 mins. 18 x 90secs RGB for the stars. All processed in PixInsight.

HI Sara - yes, I used a process called TGVDenoise in PixInsight. It may be over-egged in parts, but I found it tricky to strike a balance, as I had such different noise levels in my channels, due to the different numbers of subs for each, namely 18 for Ha and only 7 for Sii.

Lovely!

You can use the Magenta Star Reduction tool in PI to remove the mauve colour from the stars (a tip I picked up from Barry). You can download the tool from:

It works really well, having tried it recently on my 'anniversary' Elephant's Trunk!

John

Excellent. I shall post up a revised version once I finish playing about with this. Thank you very much.
