Celestron Boosts UK Presence

Recommended Posts

Celestron have opened a new 38,000 square-foot distribution centre in Berkshire and appointed a 'business development team' to better serve UK and european astronomers

The storage facility will work alongside their existing distributor David Hinds Ltd (who will continue to focus on Celestron's high-end telescopes, cameras and mounts) to "dramatically cut waiting times for astronomers ordering Celestron products from dealers in the UK".

Celestron say they will increase their promotion and outreach activity in the UK and ensure feedback from British astronomers reaches their engineers and designers. They will also hold a large selection of spare parts on hand to speed up the servicing of telescopes.

And, my favourite part, having Celestron's distribution centre based here in the UK should result in a more level playing field where UK retailers, and their customers, have access to the same prices and promotions as other countries.
Celestron invited the UK astro press to their warehouse so for more info and a photo please see here

Might impress more if the picture was not of completely empty shelves in what appears to be a completely empty warehouse,   .

Sometimes I think people fail to actually look at what they are releasing.

See they still have Orange even on the shelving.

I can understand their eagerness to tell people (I shall be posting a similar picture of FLO's new warehouse later this month) and I reckon they will have it nicely stocked before Sept, when things get reeeally busy

It's been empty since it was built during the crunch of 2008.

They are sharing the site with a a US copper alloy manufacturer and have a 10year lease.

Interesting move by Celestron

Just how much of their equipment is made in Torrance, California these days ?

I think most (perhaps all) Celestron products are manufactured in Synta's factories in China. Their HQ in California is mostly responsible for R&D, testing and final quality control of their high-end items like the Celestron C14, the CGE PRO and the new Celestron Rowe-Ackermann Astrograph (RASA).

I wouldn't know about that, they haven't shared their business arrangements with me. If it is true then the 10-year lease suggests they are here for the long-term

Good news for us astronomers. I wonder if the increased availability of Celestron products will cause other manufacturers to look at their prices?

The next 2-3 years will be interesting for a number of reasons but I'll be happiest if their presence here in the UK results in pricing that is comparable with other countries and more convenient availability. Time will tell but I am optimistic
