May have shot themselves in the foot having produced the Quark at it's price, it would have to provide some substantially better views to get me to part with all that money.

Maybe they should produce some "Super Quarks" with narrower bandwidth.

For me personally, Quark versus Lunt makes sense for bang for buck. The SolarREDi80 for me is too close in price to Lunt 80 or SolarMax 90 or SM90 external etalon, given that those options don't have integrated Barlows. For me the Quark's 4.3x Barlow is a compromise well worth making given the price saving over a dedicated h-alpha scope and you do gain some flexibility with the Quark as you can use it in different scopes.

re: narrower bandwidth Quark's, the trouble can be that then the image starts getting a little dark. One Quark I had was so dark that if there was a bit of haze I was forced to use some gain to stay at 26FPS. And that was with using a 0.5 reducer. I generally don't like using gain with my Grasshopper 3 camera. But perhaps I just have not experimented enough with it.

The Quark I use now is slightly lighter than that one I think but in a really nice place for my camera. I can still get full frame rate without using gain if there is a little thin cloud around.

The Chromosphere's I've had varied a fair bit, the brightest only needed about 1/4 to 1/6th the exposure time of the darkest.

I think that Daystar, are looking at producing

a Quark, for f10 scopes & above, using a 2.2 Barlow.

Well I have been thinking about "upgrading" from the PST to either a Lunt50mm or quark, but these prices they certainly will not be in my thinking.

They are not cheap, are they.

A Lunt 80, would be a better bet,

@ these prices.

Steve.
