AZ-EQ6 Custom Home Position

Recommended Posts

I have just built a pier at the end of my garden: http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/245847-it-started-with-a-hole-never-thought-it-would-come-to-this/

Is there anyone here that uses a custom home position with ASCOM/EQMOD? I ask because if I can park my scope horizontally, it means that my roll off shed can be about 40 cm lower than if I park in the classic counterweight down, scope up position.

I have read other posts that some use this custom park feature in EQMOD, but I have also read that some people have endless problems with it.

Who has experience of using this?

I also think I will set up this afternoon and conduct some dummy runs, but, of course, I won't be able to check the alignment this way.

Any tips/tricks (or dire warnings) would be appreciated.

I checked out the eqmod tutorials yesterday as I'm nerving myself to buy a M-Uno, and I think you can set a custom park position as an alternative to Home, which is always, as far as I can gather, as you said 'scope north, counterweight down. I may try it out with my HEQ5.

I had a go and it was easy! There is a video on youtube that shows how simple it is: https://youtu.be/hvOFj63rvLo

More importantly, the custom park location is remembered by EQMOD after a mount restart and computer reboot. When I connect the scope to CdC, it also correctly recognises the custom park position. It also lets me alternate parking between the standard and custom positions so I can put the mount back in the box! :)

I don't really know why I was so worried about it: I guess I got swayed by one persons problematic experience.
