Just had 3,500 back from miss sold ppi

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

Right I just got back 3,571,76 from miss sold PPI and I have the check in my hand right now, just have to put it in my bank. I have decided that I am going to blow 1500 on a car since I am car less atm (Will most likely get a van to modify into a mobile observatory )  the question is I have 2071 pound and 76 pence to spend on my hobby!

Now that I don't have to hike to my dark sky spot I have the freedom to really up grade my kit.

Current list of kit is in my sig though I have just got an Advent AWC113 HD webcam that I have modified for astro photography which I will be hopefully using tonight sky willing (probably cursed myself now)

And I am really hoping to get into astro photography.

So the mission is what can/should I get with £2071.76

Clear skies to all!

£19.95 on Making Every Photon Count.  http://www.firstlightoptics.com/books/making-every-photon-count-steve-richards.html

then probably, a HEQ5 mount, 80ED+FF or 130PDS+CC scopes, a qhy5L-ii mono guide cam, a Canon DSLR, mobile power supply and a cheap laptop if you haven't got one. - all pretty standard recommendations, should come in around 2k.

Well if your quick, on AstroBuySell there's a better mount going cheap  http://www.astrobuysell.com/uk/propview.php?view=99928, I wish the AD had been placed earlier in the week as I've just bought a new one

the AZEQ6 is a better mount but it's also heavier.  I'm not sure I'd always go for a EQ6 over a HEQ5 model myself, I think it's safe to say the ED80's well within the weight capacity of the HEQ5.  Talking 2nd hand there's also a HEQ5 mount on ABS - about £450 I think.

In a nutshell, can someone please explain this whole "PPI" to me. The adverts on tv are all over the place. I'm in Ireland and im sure we have something similar that will be uncovered in the future.

I dont have any kind of pension plan..............just a "nest egg"  from the sale of my last house tucked away in a couple of places (all legal and ABOVE BOARD).

I'm just curious about this "PPI".

Get a better vehicle, and avoid buying someone elses worn out headache that needs upgrading like a poor scope.
