Stacking individual images

Recommended Posts

Hi Gang,

I took several images of Saturn last night, using a 200P and a DSLR, so, as you can imagine, the images are very small (even though they were taken through a 2x Barlow). Is there any s/w out there that I can put the shots into that will align and stack them?

Slightly off topic:
You could try to put your dslr on your nexstar.
I made this post-44243-0-63433000-1435915654_thumb.j with a 90 mak and same 450D, stacked and processed with registax 6.

The upload does not seem to be as the original, I sent it from phone and it was processed by the app I sent it through. You could also see the Cassini's division in the original.

Best regards,

Alex

Thanks Alex, was this stacking individual images or using video capture s/w ?

^^ That is excellent, I will have another go today. Can you go through how you did it? I had to resize mine first to 800x600 using VSO Image Resizer , or the images were too large for registax to handle. Did you crop them in Registax or before? I would be interested to see which settings you used.

Hi,

I cropped manually all the ~30 images to 800x600 with Saturn about centered (if you resize, you lose the details). Usually registax works from the beginning without cropping, but this time it failed (program got into a some sort of loop or dead lock maybe) to align the images. However, I was lucky too, since all the images fit into the 90% quality limit, with the best one looking almost as the result posted above.

So, I set the alignment points with "use center of gravity", then aligned them, set a ~85-95 limit (depending if I have enough images), stacked the images, then used some soft settings on the wavelets.

You might want to check http://www.astronomie.be/registax/previewv6-3.html for wavelets usage, I don't know exactly what settings I used.

Best regards,

Alex

Thanks Alex, good point about resizing v manual cropping, I hadn't thought of that. I will try again with my 30 images.

Als, I now have a Canon 60D which I fitted to my 8" Dob last night, no Barlow, so the image was projected directly on the sensor. I set the video mode to 640X480 Cropped, and managed to get some videos - not easy with an unguided Dob!

I will have a go at processing these today.

All the best,

Neil.
