Is it worth getting a tripod for a laptop?

I have been wondering if its worth getting a tripod type arrangement for my computer while out gazing, I have to walk a mile and half to a dark spot from where I live and there is no where to keep my computer off the ground once there, and since my laptop has sky maps and also thinking of using a webcam for astro-photography I was wondering if this would be fit for purpose while out there at night? Thoughts anyone?

it might be worthwhile to use if it has stable and level ground to stand on, otherwise it ma become unstable and the laptop would be on the ground anyways.   how do you transport your gear to the site? if you carry it it might be worth it to get a small wagon if the path you take could  handle it, then you could use the wagon to hold ep's and your laptop?

I have the Meade ETX 80 that comes with a backpack, I have a messenger back for the laptop, snacks and flask, the place I found is quite flat but getting there with a cart wouldn't work as have to go over fences along public right of ways

Looks good to me. I'm pretty sure you can/will find a bit of level ground.

You can get small collapsible slatted camping tables that pack away into a small portable valise with handle. Or you can make or buy a tray that slots onto the telescope tripod.

i'd just take a folding camping chair and use that. plus its multi use - you can sit in it too!

How about a music stand and some bungee cords to hold the laptop to it? Similar to the one you linked to.

Yeah I am thinking along those lines, do people go out with a laptop along with the scope? I am sort of thinking of having a sort of tent also... just thinking about it the list of gear to actually lug around on a mile and half seems daunting.
