I have, for the first time, tried making a "star mask" in DSS after completing the processing and am slightly confused by the result.  My understanding was that it was supposed to produce a "gaussian spot" on the position of each star that it detects. As you will note from the attached, this is not quite what it has done.

Have I got it wrong and it is actually supposed to do this?

Alternatively, any thoughts on why it has if it isn't?

Thanks.

Your subs are not Flat fielded. You can easily tell this by the appearance of the image which shows severe vignetting. what ever DSS has done appears to be concentrated around the central ring.
