Dslr upgrade or downgrade to atik 16ic

My faithful modded dslr has died and when looking at getting another I found an atik 16ic for £120.

My current savings are getting put into a eq6 fund but was thinking although it's not the best ccd it's not going to break the bank (filters included) and it can be used as a guide cam down the line.

I'll be using it with my lenses and small refractor to hopefully make it abit wider.

What do you think

Is it worth a go?

The 16i is a very small CCD camera but it would be a good introduction to mono imaging if you can't afford anything bigger just yet, and as you say you can use a smaller refractor to widen the FOV, and also as you say can be used as a guide camera later on.

I moved onto mono imaging from DSLR imaging about 3 years ago and was astounded by the extra detail you can pick up.

You will find it a big FOV shock after a DSLR though.

Thanks for the reply Carole it looks like I'll have to give it a go.

I don't suppose you can point me in the right direction to attach m42 lenses to it?

So far the only adaptors I've seen are for Canon like the geoptik.

I have yet to find out myself how to attach a lens to a CCD camera, I've only used cameras with a telescope.

What I have attached to the Atik cameras are normally a filterwheel so not able to help much with this aspect I am afraid.

I have seen other people do it though so there must be something out there.
