First Light for Atik 383L+ Sadr area Ha

Hi Every one, At last I finally got to use the new camera ( ATIK 383L+)

I got it from FLO, I originally was going to get a Atik 428ex and I pushed the purchase button

for that camera then had a change of heart the split second I pushed the button,

( and I thought my wife was bad at purchasing shoes) any way, the kind Folk's at

FLO changed the order for me mid flo (no pun intended ) and got  the one I wanted.

Very pleased with it so far still getting my head around the software, for it (Artemis capture),

Taken Tuesday night 16 subs of 7 minutes through aWo  Zenithstar 71 ed 2013 with

reducer flattner at around 324mm fl, f4.7  on top of a Eq6 pro

Baader 7nm Ha filter

Processed in PI and Ps Elements

One thing I would like to know Is it best to Put the usb lead from the camera to the

computer then plug the power supply in or the other way around and do you pull the

power lead out of the camera when your finished for the night or pull the plug out of

the mains, Basically what's best for the camera.

Now I just need to save up for filter wheel and Filters, It was far less complicated

with a SLR on the back of the scope.

And I am looking forward to the day that the Mount the camera the guider and

every thing else that makes this hobby such a challenge goes wire free ( wouldn't that be nice) :)

Thanks for Looking

Paul

That's a marvellous first light! The entire rig has performed to the book as has its operator.

A few Artemis traps to watch out for, though I like the software very much;

- Not checking Autosave before starting a run. If ever you do this you can save the image that's on the screen already from the File menu, top left.

- Not unchecking Autosave while using the subframe FWHM to focus. No big deal.

- Not deleting the subframe after focusing so that you capture a set of single stars. (GRRR!!!) Note that the Artemis sequencer for the EFW2 does NOT override the subframe selection (I think it should) though it does override the other settings on the Exposure window.

The camera has opened up a complete set of

new options.

I lost a whole winters night of images due to that mistake, I was not a happy bunny in the morning when I checked the captures (or not), I have not done it since, religiously check autosave now,

Glad you're happy with the 383 :)  just think that with the 428 this would have taken a few panes... and a lot longer!

Also, with the 383 you must remember follow the warmup procedure before shutting down - with the only exception being for rain emergencies. For setting up, the camera is normally powered before I boot up the netbook.

Get it on the Quattro (if you've got it tamed) and set the 383 to 2x2bin, now that would be a pretty good Ha hoover :)

Thanks for the info on the warm up procedure Rob, some thing else i have learned,

It makes sense to do this, But you have to ask your self, if its that important

why is it not in the manual, if it is i Missed it.

I was thinking about sticking the Camera on the Quattro, and running it at f3.6

but at the moment i am enjoying the no nonsense small refractor,

Once i get used to the camera a bit more I shall give it a blast.

Thanks Paul
