Amazon is sometime a bit weird ...

I kept seeing the Baader Planetarium Herschel at 436€ and the description was Baader Planetarium 2956500V (visual) which is an ok price ;) I went back today and it is now 349€ and the description says that it includes solar continuum ND 0.6/0.9/1.8/3.0 50,8 mm... well this is actually the photographic one ! This usually sells for +600€

Lets see what I get, if not the P version I can always return it ... but then again it is still a good price (87€ less) even for visual.

quick update:

Got it (it is beautiful!!) as expected it is the visual version. I wrote a review on the French site and hopefully they will get the title straight as this is bordeline false advertising. I contacted Baader, they told me that they are not responsible for what Amazon sells and pointed me to the German Amazon site where the titles are correct for each item (visual/photographic)

Still a good deal, the French price (349€) was cheaper than Germany (383€) so I just need to buy the missing filters ;)

Any advice on which filters would be needed... Do I really need to buy all 3 (0.6/0.9/1.8) filters ?

I have the visual wedge, and it has the filters (continuum and a ND filter) pre-installed. I've only used it that way, my impression is that the contrast is best with the filters from what I've read here, I've not done omparison test myself though.

I'm reading some threads on filters.

I have not yet been able to separate the marketing discours from the 'real world' applications of getting such and such filters. Would not want to spend money in those 0.6/0.9/1.8 filters and discover that I really only use one in the field ;)

Another topic to dig into :)

You need to put your camera on it and see what shutter speed you get, the only reason to use a 'less dense' filter is to give a faster shutter speed.

I've got the photographic version which I picked up cheap on amazon last year, using a dslr at prime focus on an f10 scope the ND3.0 & solar continuum is fine, I think you only really need the other filters for eyepiece projection photography, or maybe a very slow scope.

James.
