I was looking at this as a place to set my scope up some nights, it is down as "open access" but I was wondering  could you set up a scope on the lawn infront of the building ( there is a dome observatory there) so I presume so. Any one on here know if its ok to go on? the car parking area is full of trees but I did see a field that looked like it had pitches for tents maybe on there would be better. I was wondering how safe it was in the night also boy racers etc. At the end of the day you have got expensive gear to think about, maybe an option would be a campsite that would take astronomers without tents/vans, wouldnt have thought it would be much for a few hours viewing knowing you are in a safe enviroment.

Thoughts?

A couple of us met there a few time and out of "courtesy" we let them know that we planned  being there until the wee small hours in advance...   Just so anyone keeping an eye on the CCTV doesn't "panic"..

Particularly as it was freezing and so we were in hats, balaclavas etc!  (Was a very memorable night that Peter, for many reasons...)

Don't recall the name, but think I know the one. It's about 4 miles west of Brecon next to Aberbran Junction. There is a dark meadow shielded by trees behind the main camp ground. Here are some photos that show a panoramic view.

Hi I have been up the mountain centre, there is a observatory there and its tied in with a new business adventure by a local. http://www.breconbeacons.org/events/5511and its not cheap at £55 per session it not owned  by the national parks but they are supporting him, I have found this out by talking to the centre manager, whilst I was there on other business and to be honest where its placed is a very poor Viewing point. oops sorry

I did see it on facebook the other day asking for £55  and thought it was expensive for what it is, as it happens I was up there Friday night but on the top part, about 1,oclock I could see some 4x4s below me down by the visitor centre all  lit up with those search lights ( I just presummed it was yobbos or off roaders. Next day on my FB page discovered it was the group, surprised me really promoting dark skies and all those lights on their jeeps
