Hi Lee,

Here are two of mine. Both taken by my Baader modded 1100d and WO Star71. The one from the IC1396 is pure Ha using an Astronomik 12nm ha filter under the Moon light.

Regards,

Matt Jenko and Carastro

i am getting my DSLR 450 modded to use with my ED80 and i was wondering do you use any type of IR filter when capturing those images?

I had mine modded by Astronomiser with a baader filter replacement, no idea what that has in the filter, it was recommended.  The only filter I use from home as I live in the suburbs of London, is a CLS LP filter.  All of the images I posted were done from home except M31 which was taken without a CLS filter (I think, as it was in 2011, so am presuming I did not use it), from a dark site.

You need some IR/UV filter if you going to use a refractor since they can't cope with multiple wavelengths that well!!

If, like me, you only intend to use reflecting telescopes (i.e. all mirror systems) then a DIY full spectrum mod is fine.

This is the sort of thing I get with a 'full spectrum' Canon 40D

I'm going to mod my 1100d and will only use it with a refractor and possible my mak. Autofocus is broken anyway and I'd never use it out and about so what would be the best mod for me? I take it an IR filter is a must or is it only required for certain targets?
