Hello from Pembs, Wales

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

Chris here from beautiful Pembrokeshire in SW Wales. Just joined after meeting S Wales moderator Matthew- and bought a fantastic SW 400 goto dob- see the pic.

I started in Jan 2014 with a SW 150 eq3, then bought a grand old Fullerscope 213 x 1600 on a heavy steel eq mount, lovely scope. The an autostar LX90, added a wedge for eq tracking. I'm a newbie in planetary and dso imaging, and also astro video which is great fun!

Actually had a 'First light on first night' with the 400 last night. Quick collimation check. Easy 2 star alignment and slewing bang on Jupiter, wonderful views of the belts and storms- then onto the Leo galaxies with views I had never seen before, quite breathtaking, I had never seen the full extent of the galaxies.

So cheers Matt and clear skies!

Chris

Pics, the 400, and recent image of Jupiter with LX90 and ZWO 120C

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum. Well that is quite a move from 130mm to 400mm I expect you are still on a state of shock!   Nice image of Jupiter by the way and look forward to seeing more images as and when they arrive.

Clear skies and hope you enjoy your stay here.

You should get some nice dark sky's there, I spent a great week at the Dale field studies centre many years ago as part of a uni environmental course.

Hi Chris , welcome to the Lounge.I' m a bit of a newbie myself having recently joined. I too have a sky cannon, the 300 mill dob as you can see. I have had some glourious wide field views of the moon thanks to the ExploreScientific 2 inch eypiece. I can hardly wait to view thePleiades cluster( missed out due to bad weather and timing of Dob purchase) I see that you too have a astrozap scope cover, good for protection and unwanted stray light. I love these flex tube, uncomplicated, push to Dobsonians. With your 14 inch mirror and dark sight, you could well be in grasp of observing the Horsehead nebula. Cheers,,,,.Mark
