I am taking refuge from Astronomyforum.net I was banned within 24!

I don't understand their moderator's practices.

After introduction I have asked 2 question about existence of an extraterretial life in the same post, I got plenty of replies to that question from highmarked members. Then I replied, my post was published than dissapearead after few hours. I have asked what has happened overnight with that post. No notifications, no warnings whatsoever. I logged in just now and I see this information on the main screen.

"You have been banned for the following reason:

UFO discussions ignore morerators warning.

Date the ban will be lifeted: Never"

I haven't even managed to thank the other guy that helped me by his advise to fix my scope.

I hope this forum that has also a better theme does not have sterilized moderators :)

All the best to you, I wish you all clear skies and low humidity in the air.

Babylon is my home too :)

Welcome.

Good luck with the ET thing...there's a galaxy of difference between a sensible discussion of possible/probable life on other worlds and 'They have bases on the Mooooon! It's true! I seen it on Youtube...'

I know which I prefer.

And it ain't the latter!

Thank you all

@AoxoMoxoA

No I didn't mean these kind of discussions about extraterrestrials. I always have scientific approach, I am not kinda Area 51 fun or Roswell man.

Actually these people do compromise the whole topic, ridicule it and probably because of that one or two moderators at AstronomyForum now and then tend to over-react and ban people prematurely.

Too many hostile moderators these days probably because of the spam bots or something, but I have passed both captcha!

Hi There,

Warm welcome to SGL, hope you enjoy the forums, be careful all the mods are online now as Eurovision has finished......

Euro what?

To the OP - It's the "little green/grey men"  in their silver disc shaped spaceships that abduct people and perform autopsy's on cows that will get you noticed on here.... Experience shows those threads don't tend to go very well on here so are better of conducted elsewhere I am sure there are plenty of places on the net that are far better suited for those types of discussions......

Enjoy your stay :)

Peter....

Hiya Kardell,

The question of whether life exists elsewhere in the universe is a verifiable hypothesis and thus a valid line of scientific inquiry. Astrobiology is a rich interdisciplinary field which not only informs many investigations here on Earth but also space missions such as the Viking program, EXPOSE or the Mars Science Laboratory.

If we were to juxtapose Astrobiology with the field of UFOlogy, and for argument's sake, loosely defined the latter as the field of providing evidence of UFOs and aliens, one of the essential problems of the latter avenue of enquiry is that those who engage in it have typically already accepted the existence of aliens, of visitations, of government conspiracies and cover-ups, and so on, as an a priori assumption. The rest, that is, what stems from the assumption, is merely to seek validation of that assumption.

In terms of logic - the study of correct reasoning - such a position commits a number of fallacies not least, begging the question and affirming the consequent. Furthermore, if UFOlogy per se were a more sincere method of inquiry, it would be pursued under the auspices of biology, chemistry, physics, meteorology, aerospace engineering and so on, and only eliminating these approaches once the tools and methodology of these scientific fields are rendered redundant and can no longer be seriously pursued.

No matter what one believes, reality is something we directly perceive, and in which we operate on the experiential understanding that the world has external, material solidity. When it comes to science, without objectively verifiable evidence; verifiable, repeatable and testable, nothing else matters. As you'll appreciate, assuming or saying something is true, does not make it true; we cannot say whether something exists or not.

Without this kind of discipline, we not only run the risk of asserting unfounded and dogmatic assumptions, but also embracing the dubious culture of ignornace. In such light, we must be careful not to become lazy and let our prejudices and mind-set become closed.

Having a look about SGL, reading a number of threads and posts, I think you'll find that SGL is on the whole a polite and friendly, informative, knowledgeable and well-meaning forum. Under such consideration, I think you'll find that the 'physics' section (where discussion of astrobiology etc takes place) typically upholds the virtues of sincere, scientific inquiry, based on the use of sound and valid reasoning.

I hope you are now able to lay your doubts and fears aside.
