eq3-2 and guiding

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!!

I have an eq3-2 mount with the RA/Dec motor drive (none stepper) and was wondering if there is a mod to allow for auto guided imaging?

I've seen someone's post on here about it before but wanted it explained in layman terms as I'm still very new to astronomy and imaging. At the moment I can get up to about 50 second exposure with my rough polar alignment and would like to extend it to a couple of minutes maybe.

Thanks!

Dependent on the type of hand controller you've got, but there are plenty of sites on-line that detail modifications that add an ST4 port to the hand controller. Then you can use a computer to drive the mount using PHD2 etc....

This is the modification kit you need to convert the standard DA handset http://www.opticstar.com/Run/Astronomy/Astro-Accessories-Imagers-Shoestring.asp?p=0_10_5_0_5_5 and instructions  http://www.opticstar.com/download/Astro/Doc/imagers/Shoestring/eq_mod.pdf . You will also need an autoguider interface to connect the handset to your laptop, or a standalone guide camera http://www.firstlightoptics.com/guide-cameras/skywatcher-synguider-autoguider.html
