I actually know about this project.  It came up in conversation when I was buying my 180mm triplet from APM.  Those are twin mounted 12" f/7.5 LZOS made triplet apos (the 304/2280 objective) that was commissioned by a far eastern buyer as a binocular telescope made by APM.  The price was, if you pardon the pun, astronomical!
