Craters Gauss, Hahn and Berosus

Hi all,

yesterday evening I managed to observe the 2.5 day old moon with the 5" MAK. I started the observation and had a look at Mare Humboldtianum which was looking pretty nice at the northeastern limb (due to a good libration for that area). Originally I had hoped to be able to sketch the sunrise over Langrenus or Petavius but it was too early for these craters. Furthermore due to the rather poor seeing (since the moon was already quite low in the west), I could not go further than the 10mm EP. This meant that I didn't find single craters which were "worth" to be put on paper. So finally I decided to do a sketch of a crater triple, covering a larger area: The large Nectarian crater Gauss with his companions Hahn (lower Imbrian age) and Berosus (Nectarian age).

Telescope: Celestron Nexstar 127 SLT

Eyepiece: Celestron X-cel 10mm

Date & Time: May 20th, 2120-2200 CEST

Location: Home terrace, Dusseldorf area, Germany

Technique: chalk-, charcoal- and whitecoal-pencils on black sketching cardbox

Hope you like it!

Hi Bish,

Just give it a try! Actually I found it even easier to draw craters with white on black sice you don't have to outline the brigt pars such as e.g. the crater rims. You simply draw them in bright white.
