M17 Omega Nebula

Was aiming my telescope in the area of the "teapot" when I happen to see an elongated faint fuzzy. Not really sure of what I  was looking at so I made a quick sketch.

Back at my laptop compared my sketch and pictures on Stellarium and it was M17.

Very nice area indeed. My eldest found 17 Messier objects in that general area in his first binocular session in southern France some years back

Cool! Haven't seen it yet meself...

In case of interest, Universe Today have a really nice series on each of the Messiers by Tammy Plotner who unfortunately recently passed away.

I couldn't agree more. This part of the sky should keep you amused for most of the summer.......

You'll keep going back to the Omega Nebula, there is loads of detail in there.

One of my favourite summer objects M17.

It responds well to filters too. I use an O-III on this and it gives superb structure and detail from dark sites.
