SW tube ring hex bolts.

Recommended Posts

Afternoon,

I have recently bought an ST80 for guiding, but i can't screw in the dovetail to hold it as I don't have the correct bolts, and my local engineer shop has no idea what bolt it is. My rings are the Skywatcher 8" (white, new model) and I have the 33.5cm SW dovetail.

So. The question. Do any of you guys know what thread the bolt that goes through the dovetail and tube ring is? If so, where can I get them from? My local engineer shop said they were very unusual, and that it was probably a specialist thread.

Why can't they just make everything universal?!?

Cheers

On my 8 inch/21cm SkyWatcher dovetail & Celestron C6 dovetail they are 1/4" Whitworth or 1/4"-20 or BSW or UNC...

...unless you mean the ones at each end.

Yeah I mean the ones in the middle width wise at each end

The very end ones on my S/W dovetail are not threaded...  :icon_scratch: except for the ones either side of them.

So what thread are the bolts that thread into the rings?

I suppose any size, if the tube rings have a female thread... I think you will find that the rings are 1/4" Whitworth / BSW / UNC too! I used socket cap screws, (that's the technical name for them), when I used tube rings to attach my modded ETX105 to a dovetail as end stops if it slid down the saddle and it would not damage the finish or chip the enamel/paint to much. I have added 2x 1/4" x 3/8" (long) to my C6/SCT dovetail bar near to the ends too! These do not go all the way through the bar so as they do not damage the OTA.  :icon_salut:

I am not sure what the smaller ones either side are for though, or what thread they are... :iamwithstupid: though I do have a few spare ones.

I've got them! Took a while but I asked for 1/4" UNC and they had it
