Evening from Kent

Hi all, thought it would be good manners to do an intro

I live in a not particularly dark bit of Kent, and have noticed that although the sky is by no means dark here, its better than when I lived in the middle of the town. I first got interested in astronomy about 15 years ago, picked up a Meade ETX 105, but had to move soon after to a flat with no garden and limited storage, the scopes been sitting at my parents since. We moved about 6 months ago, and I dug the ETX105 out the cupboard, found most of the bit and have been just about got it all working again. Just need to visit Maplins to pickup some power connectors, but have just powered it up for the first time tonight, slight chance of a clear sky later.

Although I haven't used a scope in years I have kept an eye on the sky, and go out to look and try and photograph various events. Just back from the Norfolk Broads where I spent several evenings sitting on the back of a boat with a planisphere. Main interest has shifted from goto type stuff to a more manual approach with possible light astrophotography (using a 4/3 camera). Seriously considering a SkyWatcher 150PDS on EQ5, and adding motors later. I would then switch the Meade from its current tripod to an equatorial wedge on a steel legs. Astroboot has  the stuff I am after, already have a few eyepieces. Will put  post in the main forums later asking for info.

All the best

Jon

Just in from the garden and very surprised that it all still works. Had a reasonable view of Jupiter before the clouds rolled in. Going to leave it setup for a while to see if the cloud clears, but am well chuffed. Did a rough equatorial alignment, sorted the finder scope out, aimed by hand then fine tuned on the controller. Can make out some detail and the moons. I have an electronic focuser fitted that's run through the goto handset, think I will move it back to the stand alone controller, its a pain the backside switching modes on the goto.
