M63 L from France RGB from BE

So the L layer is taken at Olly's site but I was also imaging the RGB from LP BE.

I was curious what it could bring to the table that mediocre RGB.

Well here it is;

And the RGB only to put this in perspective;

So yes, if you are imaging at a dark site, start with L and if you run out of time, you can finish it at home.

Lovely, and that is how to process a galaxy.  Light, even and neutral background sky, no visible NR, no exaggeration, delicate detail without visible sharpening. Invisible processing is good processing.

Very nice Yves, did you take any HA ? I've been having a go at M63 from LP South London and found quite a bit of detail in HA and was thinking of trying the HA added to / in place of L.

May I ask what is the work flow is to achieve 'invisible processing'?

Dont overdo anything ;)

Great image Yves, lovely galaxy M63 is and you have certainly done it justice

Well in this case you'd have to ask Yves, of course, because this is his work but you're quoting me so here's my view.

In my own work (and whether or not I succeed is for others to decide) I do very little to the global image and work very much in zones, so faint signal zones may get a little noise reduction and strong signal zones, but not stars, will get some sharpening. Both sharpening and NR should, for me, be done to slightly less than makes the algorithm's own signature visible. So reduce noise till it is reduced but doesn't look like noise reduction... etc. It isn't really a workflow issue, it's a 'how much to apply' issue and a 'where to apply' one.

Essentially it's a matter of not overstepping the limits of the data.
