M51 & 13hrs over four nights in April.

This image comprises 13hrs of data taken over four nights last week, April has been very kind for imaging pursuits and a rare event indeed for the UK!!  It consists of 9hrs of luminance, 1hr each for RGB and 1hr Ha.

I have only ever imaged this target once before with my old OSC camera so it was great to be able to get some data with the QSI. My skies are not the best for LRGB so it has been a struggle to remove some gradients but I think this is about the best I can achieve with it. It was also good to get back to doing some deep sky after many weeks of planetary work.

Thanks for looking.

Regards,

Pete

Many thanks all for taking the time to leave comments. Much appreciated. I was a bit concerned that the image was a bit heavy on saturation having looked at this on another monitor but that it something that's very difficult to control unfortunately.

Very nice! Indeed a bit heavy on the saturation, but that's also a matter of taste. You did manage to get soft and colorful stars, so to me it's nicely balanced.

Background is a bit black maybe, but that's also a matter of taste of course ;)

Thanks Chris and Epicycle. I have toned this down a bit after viewing on another monitor. As mentioned above, when it comes down to some imaging elements my opinion is that it does boil down to personal taste but I must admit to finding the differing display outputs quite a challenge to accommodate, even when limited to my own!!

That's a fighting M51! First class. Sharp and with plenty of outer halo.

I'm surprised by the amount of L to RGB since I'd have expected the colour to be overwhelmed, but it isn't.

Congratulations on a fine image.
