Hello and Thankyou

Hi,

I'm Garvan from Derry in Northern Ireland and have to confess I've been the ultimate lurker for the last few weeks on here.

I was interested in astronomy from childhood but keen interest waned as life, uni and career took over. Until I watched Cosmos with the excellent Neil DeGrasse Tyson and it was rekindled.

I've used this forum for the wealth of information and advice given to others on kit and I now own a Sky Watcher 200P with EQ5, a range of EPs and filters, and can't wait to see all the skies have to offer up close.

So Hi again and thankyou all for the advice and discussions on here.

One topic I couldn't find on here is how to control the weather to get rid of those frustrating clouds every night so far... any links?

Hi Gramsey, a very warm welcome from me too, another 200P owner with a EQ5 mount, a great scope for exploring the heavens.  As you have found, you will find a great deal of information on this forum, and it's a great community too.  So welcome, and enjoy your time here.

Hello Garvan, I really hope you enjoy your new hobby and also your stay here with the star-crazy gang on this wonderful forum.

Like you, I have used and abused these wonderful people for a while, picking their brains and and listening to the advice they have offered. I ended up ordering my first scope yesterday and it is not too dissimilar to what you have. I went for the Celestron version, a C8 Newtonian on the Advanced VX mount. I fully expect this scope to last me a very long time, unless and until I become unable to manhandle the beast. I suppose I will know that time has come when IT is lugging me around the garden as opposed to e lugging IT!
