Not so Dumb questions for newbies (skywatcher goto)

Recommended Posts

Gents

please help if you can ?

1) Do I need to polar align the 127 skywatcher goto az before I 2 star align?

2) the second star in 2 star alignment is always way off ie out of view in 25m eyepiece to goto sort of heads in the right place but know when near then the handset (v 3.09) tells me manually move to scope but it does not, it just lets esc or enter to say yes to alignment when I know its not

sorry if these seam like newbie questions !!

thanks

Oh and a side note you really really need a 12v  plug the battery pack is pants !!

You don't polar align an alt-az mount. There is a thread somewhere about setting up this mount. Do a search and see if you can find it, it's ultra helpful.

The second question should also be answered in that thread.

The mount doesn't slew any quicker when plugged into a chunky 12v source.

Good luck.

Stuck this in the other thread about 3 minutes ago:

The manual says no particular home position for the "Full Feature" mode, however for the "Easy Tracking" itr say to have the mount base level and the scope OTA level and pointing to True North.

I suggest that you therefore level and North it as per the Easy Tracking  and start from there no matter what you do.

It is easier and consistant.

Following from earlier did you enter the Long and Lat (in that order).

Check that the long is 000 57 East - basically check the leading zero's are correct - that seems easy to get wrong.

Where you are 001  00 East is likely adaquate.

DST is Yes or On - whichever it asks for - Yes apparently.

When you set to location did you set the timezone, something like UTC 0 or 0 or 00.

Just read a bit more: Manual I have indicates that you set it to the Home position then power on, in effect at power on the scope is Level and North.

Today date is:  04/24/2015  However if it takes 24 as the month then it needs it's marbles looking at.

guys

so great full for super fast replies

step 1 location 00.57E 52.07N for Wattisham in Suffolk ?

step 2 date that's gone ok

step 3 time no probs

step 4 day light saving NO

I can confirm the mount is level and stable as best it can be for a garden patio

so I think that's all ok  star 1 alignment arcturus almost straight in front of me I move to scope round centre it in the 25m eye piece and confirm ok so ?? I think  then on star 2 I pick the star vaga  or deneb press ok off she slews and then misses to star but the handset then ask me centre the star using the arrow keys the scope does not move It beeps and say alignment  ok . I then tried auto slewing to Jupiter nice and easy I thought headed in the right direction but missed by miles not even in the eye piece

I really cant think what is wrong with the data or set up

mind blowing melt down is on its way  sorry for the double post not sure how to remove it !

You know, if you live away from the city lights and someone on SGL helps you, you have to let them come and set up in back garden and enjoy an evening of light-pollution free sky :)

dark sky are not to bad here one or street lamps but that's it

Ipswich is about 17 miles away

One of the links above gives you the lat and long for your location.

Are they new batteries?

Have you read that thread about tightening up the two bolts on the mount arm to reduce the backlash in the mount?

I always used to start the alignment proces with the scope level and facing north.

step 4 day light saving NO

That's wrong, Daylight Saving is Yes. (Post 5)

BST = DST.

With the time 1 hour wrong the scope will slew to a location approx 15 dergrees out.

Everyone complains about the time changing to BST/DST at the end of March then no-one applies it to their scope.

For the whole of April I think SGL should make the scrolling banner to be "For goto owners DST = Yes"

There's your problem; Step 4; 'Daylight Saving' should be a big fat hairy YES, since the clocks went forward.
