Going to give it a go

Recommended Posts

So i'm going to try to photograph Jupiter this weekend. I have a nexstar 9.25, canon T3 and baader click stop with camera t-ring. Have been reading books and scouring the internet, but wanted to get some first hand info. What would you set your camera settings at to get good detailed images? I have a wired programmable remote for the camera so planning on stacking photos.

Thoughts?

Good luck! People generally take vids with a DSLR, or a webcam, so have a go with taking vids in vid mode and then stack in Registax. You will probably first have to convert the vid to an AVI using PIPP  though. It's freeware. I'm not familiar with your camera but I'm sure someone will add to this advice soon!

With the focal length of your scope and the tiny webcam sensor, your field  of view (we don't use the term magnification in imaging) will be pretty small, so the planet will be reasonably large on the sensor. I have to use a 3x Barlow with my 1000mm FL scope.  The webcam will need to be modded for imaging. There are some tutorials on the Web, but do ask here. The webcam nosepiece (added in the modding procedure) fits into the 1.25" eyepiece holder. Have a look around for pre-modded cameras on Astro Buy and Sell, Astroboot and eBay, but be careful with the latter!
