Venus by day.

So it's 4pm local time and I'm sunbathing on my back on Las Vistas beach on Tenerife.

Our last full day on holiday and it's virtually cloudless for a change so I've been trying to spot Venus unaided since 1pm.

It's not been easy due to some passing jet stream cirrus and not having the deepest blue sky.

But my prescription grey tinted sunglasses darkened it a bit.

The sun has passed the zenith and it and Venus are about equal distance from the zenith now.

The Moon was an essential guidepost also.

Once I'd picked up Venus I could find it repeatedly quite easily but not without my sunglasses. More for the sky darkness than the prescription I think.

Oh well. Back to Blighty tomorrow....

The first time I saw Venus in the daytime was quite by accident.  I was out birding and looking up at some soaring hawks, when I saw a white speck.  I at first thought it was a passing plane or a balloon, but it didn't move.  I put the bins on it and could just detect the tiniest of disks.  Venus - I was jazzed.

Nice. Sunny here too :)

The only thing missing is what cocktail you're drinking.

Gasping livers need to know. Well, alright, my gasping liver :D

I never drink during the day, but I make up for it in the evening. Gin fizz is the only cocktail I drink even then.

Gin and tonic is my preference!

Might as well have a drink, too much light pollution in the resort to see any but the brightest stars :(

Hactually, I'm just tucking into a pint of Dorada while waiting for our Chinese food to arrive at the table.

The sun is just setting but the sky is full of thin cloud. Haven't found Venus through it yet (says he, trying to keep on topic for not being in the Lounge!)

Venus embarrassed me big time the other evening!

I was looking for the 5% illuminted crescent moon between the clouds with my 15x70's when suddenly i spotted a silver disc like object........ After about 10-15 minutes of trying to find it again there it was again, what could it be? Venus! still i have only been an astronomer for 35+ years, it is still easy to get excited! i did laugh to myself as i watched through the C9.25. It did look very silvery during the day though :o
