IR Filters?

How essential are IR filters for imaging with a webcam.

I've noticed my cheap webcam + adaptor with Ir filter seems to have more contrast than the microsoft webcam without.

Is it possible to get one suited to colour astrophotography at a sensible price?

Webcams seem to be very sensitive to IR so without the filter the sensor can't balance the rgb very well , so yes the filter is important .

My images with a webcam came out much better with IR filter. IR causes a severe colour cast in all images.

Without the IR filter the sensor will be quickly saturated with IR light.

This will throw out your colour balance and depending on your optics can cause red bloat where the IR light is out of focus.

This is what you want, probably the best UV/IR filter you can get, in my opinion..also perfect for the L channel when or if you ever do mono imaging, I have one the same and use it all the time on my webcams and my mono CCD for the Luminance.
