Supervoid......

They talk about the background being non-uniform through quantum fluctuations, otherwise out universe structure would not have formed, part of that condensing into galaxies and galaxy clusters must therefore mean voids elsewhere - otherwise what is filling the voids when the matter that was/ there has clumped into a galaxy cluster?

Are not therefore voids an expected aspect ?

Yes, they are,  but you can predict how large they should be (i.e. their distribution of sizes) given your favourite cosmological model. This particular void is rather on the large side for the standard Lambda-CDM model ...

Always good to see new discoveries, assuming this one turns out to be so.

The day we decide our models are right and the universe is not, will be the day we find ourselves in trouble  ;)
