mount for my 1st scope

Got a powerseeker 114eq on its stick mount.... real wobbly.

Ive seen an eq3 and aluminium pod available for under £100 (used).

Ive looked a lot of discussion on here but you guys tend to go for £500 + which i cannot afford.

Am i right in thinking that even though skywatcher eq3 mounts are much older than the latest eq5 6 and 8s, that in terms of solidness for observing and basic photo use would something like an eq3 be acceptable?

What i want a solution for...

1. A solid mount that can be used when i upgrade from my cheapo powerseeker 114mm 900mm tube.

2. An eq mount that is not goto but can later have a tracking motor on.

Anyone able to give me advice or know of some other alternatives to consider?

Eq3-2, or Celestron cg4 both are good mounts, the cg4 has a better tripod though. If you get the SW tripod you can fill the legs with concrete/gravel/sand, it does a great job improving stability. Both mounts will easily cope with your powerseeker, you can upgrade either with goto at a later point although the kit is expensive new

I bought a SW 3-2 from eBay a while ago as I wanted to understand how a eq mount works and help me understand celestial coordinates better (I'd only had altaz/Dobson mounts up to this point). It's a great mount and I even managed a passable image of Jupiter using a Celestron C8! In theory, the mount shouldn't really take a scope of that weight and admittedly I had to furnish it with an additional counterweight. The sort of mount you're think of will work well for you without spending silly money. If you do get one, I would recommend adding a RA motor to it but you can do that anytime.

Happy viewing :-)
