Callisto and shadow

Had some very nice, if quite bouncy views of Callisto and its shadow in transit this evening. I always get caught out by the darker moons as they seem to transit less frequently so it is normally the light ones (Io in particular) which I see. These are often hard to pick up unless there are in the darkened limb region.

Tonight, Callisto looked very dark, much like the shadow, but it was round, and the shadow looked elongated as it was near the limb when I spotted it.

Very nice surface detail present too, but all a bit too blustery for comfortable observing. Was using the Vixen 150ED, very sharp and contrasty views in the quieter moments.

Anyone else catch it?

I braved the wind with my 12" dob to see this. The scope was buffeted but the seeing was quite good. I noticed that elongation of the shadow towards the limb effect as well. Nice event to observe

Yes, when the moons stopped creating big circles in the eyepiece, I did think the seeing was quite good! Surface detail was pretty crisp when things calmed down.

Iota Cass looked lovely last night too, had a quick peek at it before packing in.

Was out last night but a tad later to catch the GRS transit. It wasn't windy but I didn't bother with the 10" prefering just to concentrate with the small 76. Although very clear and warm the skies weren't brilliant and I found I couldn't go much over a 100x. Nevertheless, even at this reasonably low magnification, the evening was extremely enjoyable and Jupiter put on a lovely display.
