Various brightness range on single pic...help!

Recommended Posts

Hi can anyone help with this image ive taken, basically I want to reduce the pic exposure of M82 and not M81...is this possible? Ive heard I need to use layer masking, but dispite knowing how to use basic layers...im kinda stumped. I have photoshop CS5, and photoshop elements 5 (which I mainly use cos I struggle with CS5). I also have various exposures from the night this was taken, so I can be flexable, if anyone knows any tips and technics, any help would be much appreciated........

One way is to process a version for M81 and ignore what is happening to M82. Save as M81. Process another for M82 and ignore what is happening to M81. Save as M82. Paste one version (say M82) on top of the other on PS and then erase the top layer around M81 to reveal the "proper" version of M81 on the layer below.
