DSO hunt under bright half Moon

11 day old Moon and patchy of clouds, not an ideal sky for DSO work, as the weather has been this bad this winter, you just have to take the few chances given.

The sky darkness  was actually clearly better than I had expected, SQM 18.5(NELM 4.4) in zenith, comparing to Moonless night 18.8(NELM 4.6) half a month ago, slewing to M95 and 96 confirmed it, these two were visible in direct vision despite quite close to the Moon.

Starting in Bootes to finish Vlasov's list, globular NGC 5466 was not difficult with its bright core and cotton shape, galaxy 5557 a little more faint, still in direct vision.

Moving to Canes Venatici, galaxy 4111, 4143, 4151, 4346, 4485, 4490 all visible in  direct vision, while 4214 was fainter, needed averted vision to make it out.

4345 was an interesting galaxy, with its surface brightness 15.4 and 12.3' size, I had expected exteme difficulty, turned out it was visible in direct vision with the size! reading further afterwards, there're are several nebulae inside it, worths revisiting it again.

Finnish Valsov's list! All 666 targets??

Paul

Not yet, just the NGCs in Bootes   I've only got over 400 of those 666 as in my sig, there're some undoable up here, but I have many in Ursa Major, Coma Berenice and Virgo left, should have more chances to get them this Spring.
