Hello everyone,

Been looking at the stars with Celestron Skymaster binoculars for a few years now - thought it's high time I got myself some proper equipment! Am looking at getting the Skywatcher 200p Dobsonian; it seems to get some really favourable reviews. Anyone out there in the Romford area know a good 'spot' to go stargazing? Our garden's a bit cramped, what with all the plants, and the wildlife pond taking the best set-up spot!

Hi and welcome!

I think the Skywatcher 200p Dobsonian would be ideal, and am sure most others would.

I read a post on here about someone who got something similar, and then decided it wasn't for him.  If you get in touch with a club near you, you might want to have a look at somone else's before you buy one ;)

Hi There,

And welcome to SGL The first step is to find your local astro group so that you can see where they observe You would be surprised what you can see with a half decent pair of binos. A couple of books to get you started 'turn left at orion' and 'sky&telescope pocket star atlas' will get you started and help you 'learn' the sky. The 200p is a great scope and will give years of service.

When you have 10 mins download a planetarium program. lots out there but try stellarium, its great and free, to be found here :--- http://www.stellarium.org/

200 p on a Dob base will be an excellent scope as you probably know the skies from your binocular experience ... If you ever fancy imaging then maybe look at a driven EQ mount ... Then the money starts to pile up

Hi John and welcome to the forum. I will certainly add my endorsement of the 200P - great aperture, easy to use, very portable, good resale value when you come to upgrade because like everyone else here, you will soon become a sufferer of what we call 'aperture fever' and there is no known cure!

Clear skies and hope you enjoy your stay here.

Hi everyone, Thanks for all your welcoming replies - it's reassuring to know there's life out there in the universe! Also good to know the 200 dobbo I'm looking to buy has had favourable reviews. I'm also new to all this forum malarkey - Facebook et al has never appealed, but SGL has dragged me kicking and screaming into cyberspace. So excuse me while I fumble my way around the site, replying to everyone or no-one, pressing the wrong buttons....... Cheers! John.
