M81&M82 IFN capture

Hi all

Last weekend i was at Calvert Trust, Kielder and was blessed with 2 clear nights.   I thought i would have ago at trying to see if i could image the IFN (Intergrated flux nebula) around the 2 galaxies M81 & M82
Very faint stuff,
8 x 20 min Luminance,  and 2 x 20min Luminace the second night with 4 x 10 min each RGB

FSQ85 & SX694

The images might not be a great standard, but processed to try show the IFN.
1st image,  normal LRGB
2nd image , colour version just showing the IFN
3rd image   Luminance version clearly showing the IFN.

Now just got to try work out how to extract the IFN alone using Pixinsight,  note, already tried various ways using small and large structures, by Roger Bernal Andreo from the book "Lessons from the Masters"

Any advice on this would be welcome.

Thank you for looking
Paul J

Trying to get the IFN, even from here and with insane amounts of data, was one of the hardest things I've ever tried. You've had a darned good pop at it, Paul, and there it is. We can see it. When you think how recent a discovery it is you realize that catching it in two nights from the UK is no small feat.

I greatly admire your balancing of the brightness core/arms in the first image, too.

The IFN is so difficult to pull out. Its no easy task you have done extremely well. I resorted to small adjustments in curves and levels measuring the IFN against the background levels teasing it away from the noise.  Longer subs and perfect flats are essential to pulling out the faint stuff as are the dark haze free skies.
