Get into Hunting Dogs and Bear galaxies from town.

Just the results of fumbling around with my 10" Dob. This area is quite compact and some easy star hops.

These were from my back garden on the edge of town. I'd love to be able to resolve the stars of NGC 4449.

These were observations over several sessions still amazed by what you can see , under

Clear skies,

Love seeing the notes, Nick. Great area of sky.

Do you jot them at the eyepiece or do rough cuts that you write up later? I found that my rough eyepiece notes were taking quite a long time and were often illegible the following day, especially on cold nights, so I recently acquired a cheap voice recorder (there's one on my phone but the screen kills dark adaptation). I think the jury's out on whether it's working as I still have to write up my notes "properly" and I get rather tired of hearing my own voice (goodness knows how my wife puts up with me!).

Yo, I make a long list of targets before setting out. I can then jot down anything worth noting or for letting others know of reasonable targets. I try and draw at the ep, as it gives an immediate fresh effect.

I have a couple of plastic clipboards to hold A4 paper and a top pocket full of B 4-B6 pencils and a small pad of plain paper.

Should something be particularly striking , such as the rocket fuel dump, I can augment the drawing to look as I saw it , later.

I think it's worth keeping some record. It's a bit like fishing and coming home with a catch,

Nick.

Nick

I like the sketches and the quick map. It really brings things to life and helps those, like me, who struggle to remember all the NGC numbers.

I'll have to look out NGC4244. I can't believe that I've never seen that one.
