Sizing up Bootes.

Bootes is a great sign post to other constellations, but holds some lovely stars.a run of lovely nights and I kept returning to,

Alkalurops is a stunning triple, enjoyable at x200.

Izar is quite a challenge with a really sparkling yellow, catch the deep blue 2.9" away at the edge of the sparkle.

Σ1785 is a lovely bright 3.5" pair.

Σ1835 at x100, not possible to resolve the third component.

Σ1884 shows plenty of colour at x220.

Σ1910 shows bright twins.

I was pleased to get a completely clear 1.1" split at x266 with the bright

ΟΣ288. Very worthwhile finding.

39 Bootis giving a beautiful even pair at 2.7".

Σ1886 was delicate.

ΟΣ137 showed good colour. For a pair of orange twins try

ΟΣ298.

In addition, I am pleased to enclose the list from Burnham on this most full region of

Clear skies !

Bootes is great for doubles and your first two are some if my faves. I think there's a double with a pink component but cannot recall which.

The companion to Xi Bootis is a pink grapefruit to some !

Two of my favourites too (Izar and Alkopops); to me, Xi Bootis is more like a brownish colour rather than grapefruit, but maybe with more aperture....

If I ever see another clear sky I will look some of these up, not with the Dob though still lots of work to be done on the control of the beast. I will cheat with one of the goto systems. I must have let more cloud and rain out the boxes yesterday as I put them on the dust.

Bootes is a great doubles constellation my particular favourite is STF1825 a close yellow-orange pair.

Burnham's list of doubles is as long as your arm. I'm sure that I read an amusing comment on 'Star splitters' that when Bootes is below the horizon,he's busy trading for more doubles!
