OTA: Planeta

Mount:AZEQ6

Camera:ASI120MC

SO I have been out of action wioth astro having sold my setup towards the end of summer last year.

I have since bought a new better setup which I will now be struggling to get to grips with as it is a cassegrain scope and I am used to newtonians.

I mounted it last night as it was clear and had a few runs at Jupiter. The seeing was atrocious and looked as though I was looking through boiling water. I therefore struggled with focus and I know for a fact that the collimation is out on the OTA as it is another aspect of the new  setup that I continue to struggle with. Collimating a newtonian is so much easier than doing it on a truss-cassegrain!

So I was surprised considering the above that I got anything that even slightly resembled a planet in the resulting avi's, albeit a very noisy, smoothed out to hell in photoshop result ;)

Anyway below is the best 1200 frames of only 2000, stacked in AS!2, wavelets in registax, procesing in PSCS2. Captured with Sharpcap 2 at native F18.

I am hopeful that once I get to grips with the new setup and get it all collimated and setup properly I will get some good images in future (unlike this one!)

Thanks for the compliments guys :) Really is not an image worthy of any but thanks nonetheless. I had got to a point where I was quite happy with the quality of the images my old setup was churning out. Now it feels like I am learning it all over again with this new setup. I think it will be a while before I really crack the collimation side of things-if I get really stuck im going to take the OTA to the IAS and speak to nick from altair astro there!

It is the 250mm version nick yes. It will (I think) turn out some good results once I mange to work out all of its idiosyncrasies.

Thanks Pete, not like your masterpieces, but I have something to work towards looking at your pics :)

Thanks Peter, definitely room for improvement though I agree :)
