Hi,

Here's a photo of the first diamond ring from the March 20th 2015 total eclipse of the Sun. I was on the deck of the Fred Olsen cruise ship, MS Boudicca for this event. More pics to follow...

Best regards,

Pete Lawrence

And just to round things off - here's my own personal experience of eclipse day (with some new pictures)...

Great report Pete.

I've had the privilege of traveling to excellent sites for 2 wonderful Total Solar eclipses. For me it's all about the personal experience not just the science and that came over in your report too.

I'd been commenting for some years that this wasn't an eclipse chasers eclipse. The odds were not in favour of success!

You have presented a finely tuned amalgam of daring, skill and luck :D

Wonderful images and I loved reading your personal experience. It brought it all back as I saw it from the deck of The Oriana in the Faroes which was also touch and go. It's such a mesmerising and wonderful experience.

Thanks again for the comments. Ah, so you were on the Oriana Scooot. There were 9 ships in the region I believe and as far as I can tell, only 3 saw at least some of totality.

We were very lucky to see the entire period of totality. I'm currently working on putting together the itinerary for the 2017 eclipse in the States. Will be good to do one on dry land again.
