Is this the same as the celestron travel scope 70mm?

Looking at this from amazon.de as it works out at about £43...

Is this just a rebadged celestron 70mm with same focal length?

Just want a cheap telescope to compliment my Mak.

I've just bought a canon 1100d with the intention of doing some light imaging, I know it will connect to the mak fine (got t ring and 1.25" adapter) but what else other than a T ring do I need to connect to the travelscope?

The focal length and aperture are the same as the Celestron. So essentially the same scope. You seem to get more in it then you do with the Celestron. Thats not always a good thing. Its designed as a wide field scope and as such i doubt if the 4mm EP will be usable on this scope considering the same wobbly tripod as the Celestron model. I cant see the 3x barlow being of any use either. It looks like plastic and again............will give way too much magnification for the scope.

Apart from that, i see no reason to pick the Celestron model over this one. I'll be honest though.................

to me it just doesnt look like it has the same quality build that the Celestron 70 has.

Regarding imaging. I have bog standard Cannon T ring and nose piece which i bought from FLO. My camera is a 450D and hangs and sits nicely on the end of my travelscope for imaging. I do however use a sturdier tripod with this scope. I have a Horizon 8115 tripod.

I'm chucking the ep's and Barlow as have decent, or at least not quite as pants, EPs already. Mount will probably not be used ever. Also celestron do a version with all the same rubbish included too which is why I wondered if it was some sort of rebadge like skywatcher. Not heard of orbinar.

My Celestron 70 Travelscope came with a 10,20mm EP, the rubbish tripod and no barlow. The barlow was introduced a few months after i bought mine. The 10mm that comes with the Celestron scope is not great but this is a common issue with many scopes no matter what they are branded as. It is probably more to do with the tripod then the actual EP.

The 20mm that came with it is fine. I cant remember right now if my 70mm came with a finder scope or a RDF. I think it was a naff plastic finder scope.........but dont quote me on that.

Ive never heard of Orbinar neither.

If i were you, id go with the Celestron model and use your better EP's and invest in a good (doesnt need to be expensive) tripod. Have a look at:

p.s.~~have you bought/ordered the Orbinar scope?. If so that's great as its not really the scope that is the issue, its the rest of the crud you get with it. I'm sure it a generic re-branded Chinese make.

'Orbinar' is an offshoot of Seben, they also retail a range of ep's which are fairly bog standard cheap Chinese products, some with impossible to use eye-relief, the 40mm being a good example, also the filter threads are unsuseable as they are a non-standard size.  Personally I wouldn't go near any of their products.

Hi Jimbo, I'm pretty certain it will be essentially the same scope except it seems to have an extended dew shield. It comes with the same package including the 3x barlow and the 4mm EP that Celestron use to"inflate" their Travelscope deal, both of which are utterly useless and fit only for the bin. The OTA itself is surprisingly good (for the money) and if you mount it on even a modest photo tripod it works pretty well. Using a 25mm or 32mm EP you get wide enough fov to make the weak finder unnecessary.

All that said, I'd spend a little more and get something like this:

http://www.firstlightoptics.com/startravel/skywatcher-mercury-705.html

which is a similar but more substantial package, or this if it is still available:

http://www.astrobuysell.com/uk/propview.php?view=94707

which put on a stable photo tripod would make a very nice grab n go.
