Doing a search on this and ive found different editions/revisions and front page colours.

Does any1 know which is the newest ?

I dont wanna buy the wrong one.

2011 is most recent. What's the difference between this book and Night Watch by Terence Dickinson? I've read Night Watch already, not sure I'd benefit from this book as well.

Cant/wont argue wit that. I just thought it was more recent, maybe 2012.

A copy of it should be included in every scope sold. Its a bit of a "bible" to observers.

When I started I chose Night Watch over that book, wasn't sure if they 'overlap' too much. I've heard great things about it, I enjoyed Night Watch immensely.

TLAO and Nightwatch are very different books.  TLAO is basically a how-to manual for finding stuff.  Nightwatch is more of an overall astronomy book with beautiful color photos.  The two books complement each other.

I just purchased TLAO, excellent resource for someone new to the skies. The inside cover says 2011 edition, but also includes 2012 reprint with corrections, and a further reprint in 2014. So it is the most recent i suspect.

mine is 2011. It's an excellent book. I don't use on the field, but it is a very useful reference at home for me.

I started using Night Watch in the field for about a week and immediately had to get something deeper, Pocket Sky Atlas works great. I caught the DSO bug really fast.

thanks for the heads up on Night Watch - it doesn't initially appear on Amazon UK despite being #1 selling Astro book on Amazon US. A few second hand copies around though so I might take a look

Once you have a few months observing under your belt, I think a copy of "Illustrated Guide to Astronomical Wonders" is worth adding to your book shelf. Everything you might want to observe, covered in each Constellation with diagrams finder charts and photographs

second glowjet on the Astro Wonders book  I much prefer it to Turn Left - every constellation has a section and it has really helped me find my way and find great stuff - TLAO was a worthy library book borrow, but I quickly wanted to learn more

Got a Cambridge Star Atlas too - mostly so I could laminate the charts and scribble/plan on them on cloudy nights

Third rec for Astronomical Wonders - an excellent and comprehensive book. I use that and TLAO equally. Both are very user-friendly and good companions. Going to the Atlas side of things, my current love is Instellarum for the biggie, S&T Pocket Sky Atlas for the smallie... and I've been looking at a couple of online atlases for the phone but the exact names escape me! One was Deep Sky Atlas and there was another.

Just had a look inside my copy, when I bought this last year, it said latest version.
