Hi there!

Hello to all, a new member here. I'm thinking about getting in to this hobby after borrowing a friends scope for a bit. The bug has bitten so I thought I'd better join the forum and introduce myself.

My name is John and I'm in South Cheshire in the UK. No scope at the mo but I'm hoping to rectify that soon ;)

Hi John and welcome to the forum PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME before parting with your hard earned

there is that much  gear around you can end up VERY light in the wallet

That said look at the threads on here and ASK ADVICE and ,Hopefully  you will not spend more than you need to

Have fun and hope you get Clear Skies

Welcome John - I was in the same position last year and settled on a Celestron Advanced VX Edge HD.  Very nice to observe through, portable and future proof as it has three different focal length settings for AP.  Some good offers on it right now http://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/celestron-advanced-vx-8-edgehd-telescope.html

If you think of going that route I recently compiled  set of set-up instructions for someone else here - they will at least show what is involved http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/238004-simple-beginners-setup-align-procedure-for-celestron-advanced-vx-8-edge-hd/

Hi John and welcome to SGL, you should receive good advice from the forum, once you have decided on what you particularly want to observe, as this may have some bearing on the model and type of scope you will end up with, enjoy your Astronomy :)
