March 3, 2015: Early H-alpha session catches the proms

Recommended Posts

On my way to work by bike I couldn't resist stopping and setting up the solar scope. I was rewarded by a beautiful sight of two big proms on the eastern limb, one elongated, one low and wide. Several filaments and plage areas were visible nearby. Another long filament and a bright plage/flare area were close to the western limb. Lots going on. Fingers crossed for some more views later.

Yeah, lovely views here, too, this morning.

The proms on the eastern limb were grand. The 'elongated' one was impressively tall and the 'low and wide' one looked like a carnival mask perched on the edge of the sun. Excellent!

I think that hedgerow prominence was probably the biggest & most intricately defined I have ever seen.   The 'elongated' prom made the limb look like it had a ramp on it giving the impression that the limb & sun was not obeying the laws of gravity and spheres.

Solar viewing =   :headbang:
