Transporting a telescope

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm about to buy my first telescope, and it's most likely will be Celestron Advanced VX 6'' SCT.

The question is, what do I need in order to safely move the telescope from my home to a viewing place by car?

Do you use cases to transport your telescopes? How heavy the cases are?

My primary concern is weight. A piece of 25kg is the heaviest I'd like to move.

At the same time I really don't want to damage the tube by not-careful-enough driving.

Also, can a mount or a tripod be damaged by bad driving?

The truth is terriable, possibly too much to bear.

The most common option is an old style rectangular sleeping bag, wrap it in that and put it across the rear seat.

Attach seatbelts if feasible. Stops it falling off the seat if you stop quickly.

See it was your first post.

Bet you were expecting something a bit more advanced then a sleeping bag.
