I had real problems with my Nexstar last year. I ended up sending it back to the retailer who reflashed it free of charge (think I was very lucky).

He did tell me afterwards that they use an old PC to do the reflashing.

I couldn't get either my desktop or laptop to run the software. I did get my MacBook to run it but then couldn't get it to recognise that it had anything connected. Given that my desktop and laptop are running on XP and win 7 and I updated Java as the Celestron website instructs, I really think Celestron need to make their updates far more user friendly. Why they still have to run it through a RS232 cable when PCs don't seem to have been supplied with them for quite some time now I can't imagine......does make me cross as the mounts are bound to need reflashing from time to time and it's not as if it's a cheap bit of kit.

If I need to reflash again I'll try downloading the CFM onto a memory stick and pulling out a very old PC to see if I can get it all to run on that!
