27/2/15 session!

I finally got a manageable night out last night after what seems like ages. It was still windy and seeing wasn't good but it's better than it has been so I was just chuffed to get out. Also it's rather therapeutic blanking the mind for processing all morning, strange but I have missed that.

Everything was taken with my 6" scope and ASI120mm with a red filter, I did try the barlow too. You'll see. :D

First up is the obligatory mosaic.

71% illumination and 17 panels used.

Next is a sunrise over Clavius and Maginus, I did time it to what I had down as the Maginus sunrise V but it is not as prominent as I would of hoped. Whether the time was off or the libration not great for it I don't know. Not to worry. :)

Then we have my x2 Barlow shots, not the best but seeing was probably at the limit and for some reason I massively underexposed it and then end result was really noisy so they have been harshly noise reduced. Still after all that I think I can see that there is a lot of crispness amongst the softness, if that makes sense.

I also have done an annotated version of these, Plato & the Northern Limb.

Not sure if I can dig something else out before the footy starts, I'll have a look. :D

Really nice Jarrod. I know what yo mean re the softness....dont know whether that is seeing...I was going to try not using the IR pass when using the barlow to see what impact that had. I have got some images, but not really in the mood for sorting them out...weather is just terrible. Hope all is well in the sunshine ;-)

Thanks Steve!

Obviously the seeing doesn't help but I do wonder if it is more to do with resolution(not sure what this means) or under/oversampling(still no idea). Since using the ASI120 my barlow has been rendered nearly unusable so I do wonder. I should stick the DMK on and try for a side by side sort of thingy. I often wonder if my scope and camera would benefit from a 1.5 barlow.

Things are looking on the up down here, like everybody February was a waste here too.

Wonderful set of images there Jarrod. I've been so set on Jupiter recently, I've neglected an old friend!

Cheers Jake, really wanted to have a go at Jupiter too but came inside and didn't make it very long until I nodded off.

I must admit that since putting all of the filters into a wheel, and then that adding additional distance in the image train has affected what I can do. Been looking through those images, and we were both on most of the same targets (theres a surprise ;-)) I have also lost a lot of Avis....think it is because I am running out of disk space, and shuffling files around is not ideal when all you want to be doing is shaping away. I have to stop every 30 mins or so to clear down my hard drive!

If you could get hold of a TAL x2, the front lens comes out to provide 1.2-1.5x (ish). spoke to Ralph (Virgo man) about it recently...

I did have the filter in the wheel last night so it's a possibility that could do something, although it seems to work well enough for planetary imagers to use a filter wheeland that seems more fickle than most to changes in seeing, etc... To be honest it's just laziness that I didn't take it out or I could of used the IR/UV instead.

I know what you mean about losing hard drive space, I'm nearly due to move a heap over to back up as it is time consuming deleting everything. My laptop is clear though as I transfer everything to the PC when done.

That is interesting about taking the lens from the barlow, I wonder what effect it might have on my SW x2 barlow or the Tal x3?

I have been wanting to upgrade my x2 and a Tal is ideally what I want, also been looking at the revelations.
