canon and modding....

I have just purchased a Canon EOS 1100D camera online, now, for modding I understand it's a risky thing to be doing, especially so if inexperienced, like me. Do you think a local camera shop could be able to mod it if asked? Or is there another alternative?

From what I've seen here, modding your cam is quite important.
